For the rest of the time and with the rest of the boys, we have started a one-to-one program where the weaker students or those with very little attention span are tutored individually by the Doon School boys. The arrangement however, needs a little structuring and once we have that in place, this will be a huge asset for the kids who are unable to keep pace with the rest of the class for whatever reasons.
The time that Doon School boys spend down at The Bindal Project is a learning for them as well. They learn more about the lives of our children from the slums, which is very important because it opens an individual’s mind and eyes to ground realities. They are also learning conversing in Hindi and struggle with the concepts of mathematics, geography, science and other subjects in Hindi!
Here is a bit of gyaan for you, the reader that we learned recently: In Math, units=इकाई; tens= ढाई and hundreds= सैकड़ा!
In the coming time, we hope to set down a more organized pattern of volunteering support from students and others, such as from the Doon School boys so that both sides can benefit as much as possible from the arrangement.
