Raman Kumar
Raman Kumar grew up in the slums beneath Bindal Bridge in Dehradun, one of six siblings in a family struggling to make ends meet. His parents, both daily wage laborers, worked tirelessly to support their children.
In 2011, tragedy struck when Raman’s father passed away, leaving his mother, Bijli Devi, as the sole provider. Aasraa Trust stepped in, helping her secure a job as a caretaker at City Board School while also supporting Raman and two of his brothers with their education.
Raman began his schooling at Poorva Madhyamik Vidyalaya, Rajpur, studying there until class 8. He later moved to Aasraa’s Boys’ Shelter Home in Araghar and continued his education at Sri Govardhan Saraswati Vidya Mandir, Dharampur. His dedication paid off when he scored 72% in his class 10 board exams, followed by 62% in class 12, focusing on Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
While Raman performed well academically, his true passion lay in sports. A talented athlete, he has brought immense pride to Aasraa Trust with his achievements. In September 2022, he competed at the district level in Nathuwala, securing 1st place in both the 100m and 200m races. His success propelled him to the state level, where he won 2nd place in the 100m and 3rd in the 200m in Haldwani. His relentless dedication is evident in his daily training, consistently pushing himself to break his own records.
Today, Raman is pursuing a Bachelor of Physical Education and Sports (BPES) from Gurukul Kangri University, Haridwar.
His journey from hardship to academic and athletic excellence is a testament to resilience, determination, and the power of opportunity.

Monika
Monika grew up in a small village in Bihar, where financial hardship forced her to drop out of school after class 4. She longed to continue her education, but circumstances were not in her favor.
In 2019, Monika and her mother moved to Dehradun, hoping for a better future. However, the lack of proper documentation kept her from enrolling in school. Their fortunes changed when they met Aasraa Trust’s outreach team. Aasraa helped secure Monika’s paperwork and enrolled her in a Mobile Learning Bus, reigniting her passion for learning.
Determined to make up for lost years, Monika joined the National Institute of Open Schooling and studied up to class 8. With Aasraa’s continued support, she was admitted to Government Girls Inter College, where she thrived.
In 2023, Monika passed her class 10 exams with an impressive 83.6% and cleared her class 12 with 80.2%. Today, she is pursuing her undergraduate course in Diplomacy and Foreign Policy at the prestigious University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Dehradun. She dreams of becoming an IAS officer.
From a school dropout to a determined scholar, Monika’s journey is a testament to the power of education and perseverance.
