Aasraa Trust launches Shelter Home for 200 Girls

  • The construction of the Girls Shelter Home was funded by Lufthansa Groups aid organization, help alliance and Mastercard
  • The Girls Shelter Home offers quality education and protection for the most vulnerable in Dehradun

On the 6th of September, 2022, Aasraa Trust inaugurated its new Shelter Home for 200 Girls on Rajpur Road in Dehradun. The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami, did the honours along with Ms. Andrea Pernkopf, Managing Director, help alliance. Present on the occasion were Member of the Legislative Assembly- Rajpur, Dehradun Shri Khajan Das, Director General-Department of School Education, Uttarakhand, Shri Banshidhar Tiwari, Mr. Henning Neuhaus, Communication, help alliance, and Ms. Sangeeta Sharma, the General Manager Sales India at Lufthansa Group. help alliance, the aid organization of the Lufthansa Group, funded the project which was initiated by an MOU between the Education Department of the Government  of  Uttarakhand  and  Aasraa  Trust. In addition, Shri Vikas Varma, Chief Operating Officer, Mastercard South Asia was also present at the event. Mastercard donated 200.000 Euro for the construction of the new girlsshelter home through the RTL-Spendenmarathon.

In order to prevent the girls from being exposed to many dangers on the streets without protection, an environmentally friendly dormitory for 200 females is now built instead of the dilapidated makeshift shelter. In the safe environment and new “home” the girls now learn to regain confidence and are physically strengthened by food and medical care.

About Aasraa Trust

The Aasraa Trust was founded in 2009 by Shaila Brijnath to provide equal opportunities to underserved children from the slums and the streets through education, nutrition, medical care, training and homes. Aasraa started the 1st shelter home in 2013 to provide a secure haven for abused, abandoned, orphaned and special needs children. Furthermore, the shelter houses girls from the hills of Uttarakhand who wish to complete their schooling and go in for higher education or skills training.
