Shelter Homes

A Shelter Of Care And Compassion

Aasraa’s journey with shelter homes began in 2012 through its association with a government-run facility on Rajpur Road, Dehradun. Working in partnership with the institution, Aasraa supported the children with education, care, nutritious meals, and improved infrastructure. Since the facility only housed children up to Class 8, Aasraa went on to establish its own gender segregated shelter homes in 2013. Without shelter beyond Class 8, many children, most of whom had migrated from the hilly districts of Uttarakhand, were at risk of dropping out. Returning to their villages meant facing serious barriers to continuing education. Aasraa’s shelter homes ensure that these vulnerable children can pursue their studies beyond middle school while growing up in a safe and nurturing environment.

A Safe Abode For All!

Aasraa’s shelter homes provide a safe haven for children with nowhere else to go—those from slums, streets, abusive environments, or abandoned due to disabilities. In Dehradun, where shelters for differently-abled, orphaned, or vulnerable children are limited, Aasraa fills a critical gap. Beyond safety , these homes offer nutritious food, medical care, counseling, and emotional support, creating a nurturing environment where children can heal, grow, and reach their full potential.

From Shelter To Opportunity

Aasraa’s shelter homes go beyond providing basic care. They serve as spaces where children are exposed to a variety of co-scholastic activities that complement their education. From art, music, and sports to personality development workshops, these activities nurture talent, build confidence, and encourage creativity. By fostering curiosity and self-expression, the homes inspire children to grow into stronger, more confident versions of themselves, preparing them for a brighter future.

The Shelter Home is more than a refuge for children – it’s a place where they
can rebuild their lives. It’s a safe space that allows them to dream again,
and I’m grateful to be part of it.
